Created by Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre Company of Atlanta, GA, the Next Narrative Monologue Competition gives students the opportunity to deliver powerful, contemporary monologues from modern Black playwrights including Robert O’Hara, Candrice Jones, Josh Wilder, James Tyler and more.

Milwaukee Rep is one of many regional cities participating and is offering free fall workshops in collaboration with First Stage, the Kellogg PEAK Initiative, as well as select schools and organizations. At Milwaukee’s March 10 regional competition, two students will win cash prizes and the opportunity to represent Milwaukee on an all-expense-paid trip to New York City. Our regional winners will go on to compete at The Apollo Theatre in Harlem, for additional scholarships and prizes.

Audition registration is officially open! Interested students should choose one of the following dates:

  • Saturday, January 11th from 11:00am-1:30pm at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center (325 W Walnut St, Milwaukee, WI 53212)

  • Tuesday, January 14th from 4:30-6:00pm at Milwaukee Rep (108 E Wells St, Milwaukee, WI 53202)
