Free Day of Theater

On Saturday, October 2, we will be hosting a "Free Day of Theater" with 10 events at the Patty & Jay Baker Theater Complex. Events will include: Welcome Back Concerts, a showcase of New Play Development projects in process and a performance by our Professional Training Institute teen ensemble. In addition, there will be a dance master class, behind-the-scenes demonstrations with Rep artisans, a panel discussion about our John (Jack) D. Lewis New Play Development program and a town hall with Rep leadership on the future of the theater. All events are free but advance ticket reservations are required.


Our "Free Day of Theater" will run 12:00pm to 7:30pm with each event lasting 60 minutes. Please see the schedule of events below.

Health & Safety Protocols
In consultation with public health officials and coalition with many SE Wisconsin cultural venues, Milwaukee Repertory Theater will require all patrons and volunteers be either fully vaccinated or provide proof of a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of performance time for October 2 upon entry for those 12 and older. In addition, all patrons regardless of vaccination status will be required to wear masks throughout their time in our building.


Welcome Back Concert

Noon, 3:30pm and 6:30pm
Quadracci Powerhouse

Actors from your favorite Milwaukee Rep productions will sing songs from shows in our 2021/22 Season as well hits from past musicals. The 60-minute concert will repeat three times throughout the day. The concert features Jessie Hooker-Bailey (Sarah in Ragtime, The Color Purple, A Christmas Carol), Emma Rose Brooks (Sarah in Guys & Dolls, Man of La Mancha), Jeffrey Kringer (Tony in West Side Story) and Nygel Robinson (The All Night Strut!) with Patrick Morrow on drums and Music Direction/Keyboards by Dan Kazemi.

New Play Development Showcase

A sneak peek at works in progress from our John (Jack) D. Lewis New Play Development Program, including scenes and monologues from six different plays. Showcase repeats at 1:30pm and 5:00pm. Artists include West Side Story Choreographer Jon Rua.

PTI Showcase

Milwaukee Rep's Professional Training Institute (PTI) ensemble will perform monologues featuring playwrights from the new national Next Narratives Monologue Competition (formerly August Wilson Monologue Competition). Teen participants will be coached by actors and teaching artists as audiences witness the evolution of the monologues as they are prepared for competition.

Learn more about the creative process in our Costume Shop as we conduct interactive demonstrations about costume design, hair, makeup and more around our upcoming productions of Steel Magnolias, A Christmas Carol and Titanic the Musical.


Dance Community Workshop

Join us for a community dance workshop with actor and choreographer Jon Rua (West Side Story). Up to 30 people will be able to participate in the workshop on our Stiemke stage. Or choose to observe the process in the audience.

The Future of Milwaukee Rep

Artistic Director Mark Clements and Executive Director Chad Bauman will give a presentation on the strategic priorities for Milwaukee Rep from 2020-2025 including Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, New Play Development and a new theater complex. The Town Hall will end with a 15-20 minute question and answer session.

Explore the New Play Development and dramaturgical process from idea to production through an interactive session with Milwaukee Rep Literary Director Deanie Vallone and a special guest playwright.


Interactive Lobby and Theater Games

In between sessions, join our Teen Council and Professional Training Institute students in the Stiemke lobby for participatory theater activities and games.
