About

Casting

We strive to create an audition and casting process that is inclusive and welcoming to all that desire to work at Milwaukee Rep. We regularly evaluate our processes and recognize that this is ongoing work. We commit to this practice, bringing life to stories that match our theater’s mission and vision.

Milwaukee Rep is a member of the League of Resident Theatres (LORT) and works under an agreement with Actors Equity Association (AEA), the union of professional actors and stage managers. By agreement, most of our contracts are equity contracts. However, we employ both AEA and non-AEA actors, and all are welcome to submit.

Our Commitment

We commit to:

  • Inclusivity and assuming that all characters can be played by actors of any age, race, ethnicity, gender, and physical ability except for when these factors are germane to the script.
  • Honoring the playwright’s intent when reading a script and not limiting ourselves to more traditional casting, based on historical production history.
  • Open submission processes that allow all actors, but especially local actors (within a 50-mile radius), to submit on a rolling basis. See below for more information.
  • Giving actors a respectful amount of time to prepare material. Material will be sent to actors at least three days in advance of their initial audition or callback.

Key Ways to Be Seen

  • Milwaukee Generals
Every winter we hold the Milwaukee Generals at our theater. This is a time for equity and non-equity individuals to be seen for Milwaukee Rep’s upcoming season. We also invite over 25 Wisconsin theaters to observe these auditions for casting of their seasons. Getting actors work is important to us. Details will be posted in November/December on our website.
  • Equity Principal Auditions
Every February/March each season, we hold our Equity Principal Auditions (EPAs). These will be held in Chicago and Milwaukee. All details will be posted through Actor’s Equity (www.actorsequity.org) and our website.
  • Show-by-Show
These postings are through Actor’s Equity and on Actors Access, where actors can submit their headshot/resume for consideration. All submitted headshots/resumes are looked at and from there, we invite individuals to audition. For some shows we will do local open calls and will post these opportunities through our website and social media outlets.
    • For those that would like to submit for a particular show, please complete the headshot and resume form linked below.
