Engage & Learn

Neighborhood Engagement

Milwaukee Rep’s Education and Engagement Department works with the Amani, Metcalfe Park, and Muskego Way neighborhoods. Through our Neighborhood Programming, we bring theater arts to residents in their communities, as well as bring residents into our theater spaces. We work to support each neighborhood’s mission by collaborating with their anchor organizations to help create a stronger and more vibrant Milwaukee.

Support for our neighborhood programming comes from Northwestern Mutual Foundation, Greater Milwaukee Foundation, and Community Advocates.

Amani Neighborhood

Anchor Organization: Dominican Center
Community Goal: Education and Family Well-Being
Partner Events: Safe Summer Kick-Off, Beyond the Bookbag, Neighborhood Nights

We work in collaboration with the Amani Neighborhood to provide family-friendly community events. During the remainder of the year, we organize Neighborhood Nights. These events provide an opportunity to connect with residents over a meal, offer workshops and bring them into our theater spaces to see one of our shows.

Metcalfe Park Neighborhood

Anchor Organization: Metcalfe Park Community Bridges
Community Goal: Connectedness & Cultural Vibrance
Partner Events: Ralph Metcalfe Play, Community Meals, Community Workshops, Jammin’ At the Polls

We collaborate with Metcalfe Park Community Bridges to celebrate all the work that is being done in the neighborhood. We are offering workshops that develop life skills and prepare residents to take part in a community driven new play that tells the story of their namesake, Ralph Metcalfe. Co-commissioned by Milwaukee Rep, First Stage, and Metcalfe Park and written by Sheri Williams Pannell, the piece will be performed in the neighborhood in Summer 2024 alongside a community-designed mural.
